Financial and political details surrounding a Vice City sign going up in Miami for GTA 6 have been revealed.
According to a new article in The Miami Herald, Rockstar have paid nearly six figures for a single sign that’s being currently put up in Miami. A “Welcome to Vice City” sign has been making progress outside of the county-owned Kaseya Center where the Miami Heat play. It will be going on top of the arena. Rockstar Games have put pen to paper and given the country “nearly $1 million”.
In-game, the Kaseya Center will be called the Sahara Arena, home of the Vice City Narcos basketball team. Sahara is Rockstar’s fictional version of Amazon as seen in GTA Online and GTA VI. You can see the Sahara Arena, inspired by the Kaseya Center, in the screenshot below.
Democrat Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava wants the money Rockstar have paid for the sign to fund the Parcel B park planned behind the area. However, Republican Commissioner Juan Carlos Bermudez wants it to fund the Sheriff’s Office because they’re promoting “violence against police and crime-heavy narratives”.
Bermudez told attendees of a meeting that he has concerns Grand Theft Auto VI players “may choose to commit crimes” and “impact the county’s reputation”. It’s the same old story. The games are the problem, not guns. According to politicians.
Local10 news reports that Rockstar and the county are in active conversations about more signs across the area. More info on this will be provided during the next commission meeting.
