Robot vacuums have come a long way since the first models entered the market years ago. A lot of people tried using one before, didn't appreciate the limitations, and swore off robot vacuums entirely. Today's robot vacuum, however, is an entirely different breed. The highest end models are exceptional cleaning aides and are worth a new look.
You can always buy a cheap robot vac, but I wouldn't recommend it in the end. Cheaper options don't last as long and don't offer as much value as newer models, so you may be disappointed in the long run. If you don't want to pay a lot of a robot vacuum, that's understandable. I am just of the opinion that getting a budget robot vacuum won't satisfy your everyday needs. If, however, you're willing to invest in some frankly cutting edge tech, then you have a good chance of finding a vacuum that fits your lifestyle. You don't have to buy the most expensive or highest end models, but when it comes to robot vacuums, you do get what you pay for. And cue the new ECOVACS DEEBOT X12S OMNICYCLONE.

The DEEBOT X12S OMNICYCLONE was unveiled during IFA 2026. It's ECOVAC's most powerful vacuum to date and also the first to be SGS-certified (more on that below). It retails for $1,299.99, but Amazon currently has it on sale for $999.99 with free shipping after a $300 off instant discount. That doesn't make the X12S inexpensive, but it's laundry list of advanced features, top-notch performance, and automated functionality help justify the price tag.
The X12S is both a vacuum and a mop, and it excels at both. But let's start with the vacuum. It boasts 27,000Pa of suction, equivalent to about 53 air watts of cleaning power similar to a standard hand vac. The Zero Tangle 4.0 roller brush with stiff bristles pushes down into carpet pile instead of sitting on top, allowing the vacuum to more easily penetrate past the carpet fibers to the debris that's hidden below. The X12S is SGS certified to remove an average of 97.44% of dust, mites, dander, and allergens from carpet, something that can't be said for most robot vacs out there, regardless of price.
Moving on to the mop side, the X12S utilizes its patented OZMO Roller 3.0 system, which comprises of a single microfiber brush that spins vigorously at speeds up to 220RPM to scrub off stubborn grime. Thirty two micro-nozzles continually spray clean water across the roller to keep it moist. The dirty water is scraped up and then suctioned into a separate holding tank for disposable once the X12S returns to the dock.
The X12S features a unique dock as well. Whereas most other self-emptying docks I've seen empties the dust bin into a disposable vacuum bag that you have to change (pretty often), the X12S dock sucks the dirt into a canister that can be emptied out in a garbage can. That's right, you can take vacuum bags out of your budget. The roller is washed with hot water and then dried with 145°F heated air. The dirty water gets collected in one bin and a second bin refills the robot with clean water. The docking station can also dispense cleaning solution, self-clean, and self-dry to reduce routine upkeep.
The X12S navigates your floors and avoids obstacles all while mapping your entire layout using a combination of LIDAR and RGBD cameras. The TruePass adaptive 4-wheel-drive climbing system can also navigate over floor transitions as high as 1.6". ECOVACS has a mobile app that unlocks all of the smart features on the Deebot X12S, including scheduling, maintenance, updates, and manual controls. You can set up no-go zones or have the X12S run during the times and days that you're not home, and more. The app will alert you when service is required, whether it be simple maintenance or parts replacement. All parts that are intended to be serviced y can be purchased from Amazon.
I paid $1,100 for a robot vacuum back in 2023. I had tried quite a few cheaper robots from many brands before then and I had come away disappointed every single time. The one I finally ended up being happy with happened to be the most expensive. I had buyer's remorse for the first month or so, until I realized just how dirty my floors were and how quickly they got dirty again. Three years later, I feel like it was well worth the money spent. My robot vacuum is still running strong and I hope it will last a few more years. The technology recently has evolved greatly and I wouldn't hesistate buying another premium robot vacuum once I need to. If that time is near, the X12S would be one of the top contenders on my list.
