GTA Online Shark Card sales are up as GTA V sales slow down. That’s according to Rockstar Games’ parent company Take-Two Interactive.
The NYC-based company revealed a new set of financial data to investors during the company’s Q1 2027 quarterly earnings presentation on Friday morning including talk of GTA 6 pre-orders. CEO Strauss Zelnick also explained just how well Rockstar Games’ titles have done over the past three months in terms of sales and cash made. This comes as Take-Two become the world’s largest publicly traded video game publisher following the EA buyout earlier this week.
Take-Two Interactive have revealed that Grand Theft Auto V has not surpassed 235 million copies as expected. It hit 230m in May and has routinely sold 5 million every quarter aside from this quarter and one quarter last year. The game is also one of the most downloaded PS5 games every single month despite this.
The total sales of the Grand Theft Auto series still sits at 470 million copies worldwide as it did in May. Once again, this is not inline with with the average quarter for the GTA series total sales growth. As for Red Dead Redemption 2, that also saw typical growth. Learn more here.
As for GTA Online and GTA+, the game just keeps on growing. Thanks to the recent update titled The Kortz Center Heist, the game is continuing to “exceed expectations” set by Take-Two according to the CEO on the earnings call. It was also said that “We’re very pleased with how things are going. Rockstar’s updates are always well received. The updates always reactivate players.”
Recurring spending in GTA Online grew by 3%. More money is being spent by players in GTA Online. On top of that, GTA+ is “thriving” in terms of member sign-ups. When asked if Rockstar have to invest a lot of resources into GTA Online still, Zelnick said yes, Rockstar do. The plan is to continue to do that.
