GTA 6 is still coming on November 19th and is looking to make even more money than expected. That’s according to Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar Games’ parent company.
The company became the world’s largest publicly traded video game publisher earlier this week and on Friday morning they shared their most recent financial data to investors. This information covers their Q1 2027 which ran from May through July. The report was followed by a call with CEO Strauss Zelnick who explained just how well Rockstar Games’ titles have done over the past three months in terms of sales and cash made.
On Thursday, Rockstar Games made a big announcement no one was expecting. A Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look is going to premiere on Netflix at 3pm ET / 8pm BST on Thursday, August 27th. In briefing to IGN, Take-Two say that they “believe that consumers’ passion and anticipation for the next evolution of this iconic series will grow further leading up to the title’s November 19th release” following the Extended Look later this month.
Zelnick took questions from investors on the call about the Netflix, he said that the streaming company “are a great marketing partner and distributor. We have a close relationship. This Extended Look is part of Rockstar’s strategy. We’re always in conversation.” Whilst Zelnick would not give details on the Netflix-first video, he said does “feel really good” about it.
In an interview with Bloomberg, Zelnick said that “I do think there’s reasoning behind this. I think when the title is launched on Netflix, if you watch it, you’ll understand more.”
Zelnick said in prepared remarks to investors that: “With positive trends and excitement around the November 19th launch of Grand Theft Auto VI, we are reiterating our Fiscal 2027 Net Bookings outlook of $8.0 to $8.2 billion.” This might suggest GTA VI pre-orders are higher than expectations.
Additionally, overall revenue for the quarter came in at $1.39 billion. That is above the $1.32-$1.37 billion range Take-Two expected. Again, a few hundred million increase. Take-Two also GTA VI is “having an exceptional start to preorders”. No specific numbers were given.
The top boss also touched on marketing. In an interview with The Game Business, Zelnick said that “Rockstar is known for trying new things and innovating. And I am hopeful you will see more innovations” following the extended look on Netflix.
